It's Hollywood's biggest mystery: Chloë Sevigny's on-again, off-again umlaut. The Boys Don't Cry star has accented the e in her first name since birth. But both ABC and E! misplaced the horizontal colon during Oscar preshows, and it's MIA in the new American Psycho. Lions Gate coprez Mark Urman claims her Psycho contract is umlaut-free, adding, "We wouldn't dream of insulting her." Sevigny herself "doesn't care, to a certain extent," says publicist Amanda Laurence, pressing nonetheless for strict umlaut enforcement: "I scream at her agent William Morris every day." But David St. Hubbins (Michael McKean) of Spinal Tap says Chloë has it easy: "There's a waiting list in England for umlauts - we had to wait seven years for ours!"
